Can you afford not to look after your employees in a meaningful way?

The costs of poor wellbeing in the workplace are huge. If you isolate mental wellbeing, the total annual cost of mental ill health to UK employers was £26bn – £1035 per employee – in 2007. And that’s just mental health. If you then include back, neck and muscle problems, you add another £14bn to the total. Presenteeism, which is obviously correlated with ill health, was estimated in 2012 to cost the UK economy £108bn a year.

With these figures in mind and with the moral obligation that comes with employing human beings,  invest in a program that empowers vibrant, confident, healthy, loyal and productive employees! The nature of a corporate wellbeing program will largely depend on the type of organisation, budget and what you hope to achieve, this is why a tailor made solution is essential. The health & wellbeing offering can be a one-off talk or workshop, a longer comprehensive programme covering a range of topics or a regular feature. Topics can include a combination of movement (short exercises at your desk are very popular), mindset (your mindset underpins all behaviour change and the “right” mindset is essential for success both personally and professionally) and lifestyle (including popular and important topics such as nutrition, sleep and rest). What they all have in common is my Scadinavian approach to health & wellbeing which is based on keeping things simple, accessible to all, practical, down to earth and light hearted.

Some possible options (costs vary depending on number of attendees):

1) Stand alone workshops
Examples of topics: “movement snacks”, stress management, self care, habits & motivation, nutrition, sleep, the importance of language, communication, posture & alignment, dealing with difficult colleagues, training for life, fit in you 40s & 50s, breathing (relaxation and movement), resilience, mindset & attitude.

2) 1-2-1 coaching at work
To engage as many of your staff as possible, offer your employees the chance to work on lifestyle changes that are relevant and personal to them. A great way of showing your staff that their wellbeing is hugely important, and it’s not just about ticking the boxes.

3) Pilates & natural movement classes
This can be a regular class or a one-off. Focusing on the areas that are particularly relevant to office workers, such as low back pain, tight hips/chest & shoulders, strengthening the back of the body and generally how to keep active at work) 3 or 4 month wellness program

4) A comprehensive program covering movement, mindset and lifestyle choices, both at work and at home (see About My Approach page). This can be a combination of recorded and live material.

In addition to the above I collaborate with a qualified dietitian and nutritionist (Nutriviva). We offer joint workshops based on our ‘Wheel of Wellness’ incorporating the main 4 pillars of health, nutrition, sleep, movement & mindset.  We include the latest research and findings are presented in a meaningful and actionable way.

Before I changed my career I spent 12 years working in the corporate world in account management, business analysis and sales management. My last job before I changed direction was as a sales manager for one of the most iconic brands in the toy industry. The sales job was a great combination of managing client relationships, internal customers and analysis. Dealing with clients, colleagues, suppliers etc is fascinating. Working out people’s motivation and what makes them tick is key to being able to successfully navigate the balance between getting the job done and keeping your stakeholders happy. Understanding my clients’ needs and making them feel special was as relevant then as it is now.

I take my corporate background and my new focus with me when I do workshops for companies who want to look after their employees and offer them something that is going to improve their lives, at work and beyond. I’m fortunate to have a very broad experience and background and it gives me the ability to connect with a variety of people. I also collaborate with other Health Professionals to provide expert guidance in all areas of Health & Wellbeing.

Some of the companies I’ve worked with include Capita, Health Education Wessex, Parexcel, Slalom, Erevena, Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Conference and Bishop Luffa Secondary School.

“ I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop that Cecilie delivered for Matthew Radley & Associates on movement.  She brought so much knowledge and some really useful practical tips on how to build more movement into my day whilst working remotely.  As a result I have started up my Pilates classes again which always make me feel more in balance and therefore able to work more effectively.  Thank you Cecilie, I look forward to our paths crossing again!”

“I loved your energy in the session and the mix of theory and practical.  Providing us with some great chair-based stretches to promote movement was really helpful, the tennis ball is a revelation and also the ‘house prompts’ is brilliant.  I loved the setting for the session and the backdrop – I knew it would be something different with a back drop like that! You have a great energy when you talk and you’re really easy to listen to”

Cecilie led a very positive zoom session for our team focusing on the importance of regular movement for personal wellbeing – more important than ever during lockdown! As well as some great insight and fun facts around why our bodies need to keep moving in certain ways, she also demonstrated some simple but effective exercises for us to practice regularly at our desks. We all now have tennis balls to hand!

I really enjoyed our recent session with Cecilie. It reminded me of how important movement is, particularly when working from home and I loved the hints and tips that she gave us. I will certainly try and remember to include them in my working day.
